Newell Golf Club - Course News

January 2010

Happy New Year

As we usher in the New Year we look forward to longer days and the thoughts of another golf year will help to shorten the already long winter.  We are already making plans for the 2010 golf season and look forward to a successful year for the Newell Golf Club.

At the 2009 membership meeting it was voted on by the members to raise dues for the 2010 season by 10%.  You will find the new rates listed below.  The board of directors have been working very hard to continue to try to bring you the best golfing value in the northern hills.  In preparing the 2010 budget we have looked very closely at controlling expenses and with the dues increase we look forward to being able to be in strong financial condition come years end.

We thank you for your support in the past.  The reason we have a golf course in Newell is because of the membership.  From helping at a work day, encouraging a new member to join or bringing a friend for a round of golf and supporting the clubhouse it all really helps.

For the coming season we have set some goals and I expect we will continue to see improvement in our golf course.  We now have the equipment where we can correct some of the soil problems that have plagued our greens.  Tee boxes will see more improvements with landscaping to include the new tee box rocks.  We look forward to the improvements that have been done with Brian’s Brook and # 8 green.  With better grooming of the sand traps and the rough around the greens and fairways the course will set up to play fair for all.

As we enter the New Year we find the checkbook running on empty.  To encourage early payment we will again offer incentives to pay your membership early.  If your dues are paid by January 31 you will receive six 9-hole green fee tickets to be used by a guest to golf free.  With payment made in February you will get four tickets and if made by the end of March you will then receive two.  Remember that your membership should be paid by May 1st and if you need to make payments that you can do so making sure the last payment is made so you are paid in full by May 1st.

I look forward to seeing you at the course this summer.
